It's hard to believe, but Morgan is a 1 year old today. She was so excited about her birthday that she got up at 2:42 a.m. this morning to celebrate. Let's just say that I wasn't expecting a party at that time.
I'll upload some birthday pics after tomorrow's birthday party with all of her relatives. Here's a little poem I wrote for her to celebrate the big day.
You had us worried even before the big day,
Mom's ambulance ride was the big give away,
That you were going to take the road less traveled
You left your family and friends a little bit rattled.
A 1 in 25,000 chance of having short limbs,
And a 5% chance to have your tummy fixed again.
Seven weeks in the sterile and stark NICU
1,200 miles back and forth just to see you.
But you didn't let the odds get in your way,
And you came home to us on that special day.
Ella hugged and kissed you from the very start,
And she loves her "Baby Morgan" with all of her heart.
So you may have had some strikes against you right away,
But you look like your ol' Dad so everything is o.k.
Your chubby legs are like little rolls of dough,
You love to knock things down and be Baby Distructo.
You love playing with your sister and watching trains go by,
Your moods consist of a big smile or a shrieking cry.
One of your favorite games is playing peek-a-boo,
"Da-Da" and loud "acks" are your favorite coos.
And let's not forget your snorting throughout the day,
Or the time when you needed an itty-bitty toupee.
So, Happy Birthday Morgan, my brave and beautiful little girl,
Your smile makes me the happiest Dad in the world.

Life is absolutely precious... too few value each moment, each second...
Powerful poem, Paul... I am grateful that you value each moment, each passing second...
