Morgan is an X-Man

It's unlikely Morgan is going to have super powers, but we did get confirmation last week that she does have a mutated gene called FGFR3. This mutation causes a condition known as Achondroplasia, which is the most common form of disproportionate short stature or dwarfism.

Holly and I actually found out about this the day before she was born through an ultrasound, but we wanted to wait to tell everyone until it was confirmed and we had all our facts straight. The bowel problems she's needed surgery for is totally unrelated to her Achondroplasia.

From our meetings with the genetic counselors, it looks like Morgan may have a mild form of Achondroplasia, but she will still have many of the manifestations that come with it. The main physical difference is that she'll only be about 4 feet tall. This wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that she won't be able to use all the basketball skills provided by her father's DNA. ;)

Although Holly and I have been focused on her surgeries and getting her to the point where she can come home, we are dealing well with the news and are ready to meet any challenges that this will bring. And although there are still a lot of unknowns in the future, what we do know is that Morgan is a beautiful little girl, she is getting healther every day, and we can't wait to love her up the way she is.

So, Morgan won't be able to fly or go invisible, but she's still our little X-Man.
